Enjoy a tipple after a day on the slopes
In New Zealand, the blood alcohol limit is 50 milligrams (mg) per 100 millilitres (ml) of blood (250 micrograms (mcg) of alcohol per litre of breath). If you are under 20, the alcohol limit for drivers is zero. There is no grey area in the eyes of NZ law - even if you're just over the limit, you’ll be arrested as a drunk driver and forever hold a criminal record. So while considering an Après Ski in Queenstown New Zealand, consider the safes option of having a designated driver!
There’s a great website called drinkdriving.org that calculates your average allowance of wine and beer based on the legal limit + your body weight + gender etc. So while it's only a guide, it's good to see what the limit looks like in terms of ‘actual glasses’ of alcohol.

So, you have a sober driver and want to extend your day a little? To start, both Coronet Peak and The Remarkables haven’t really embraced the whole hang-around & enjoy am Après ski experience. The bars on the mountain literally shut down as the lifts shut down and the bar/restaurant areas are packed up quickly.
So, instead, here’s a list of a few places we’d recommend as Après Ski worthy…
1. Ayrburn Dining Precinct - Arrowtown
Just outside Arrowtown is the newly opened, family-friendly Ayrburn Dining Precinct. For a touch of rustic atmosphere, in a restored farmstead and outbuilding, you have 6 different dining options. It's a great place for families & friends, relaxed beersies, or more formal dining.
2. SODA QT
A relaxed bar/dining location on the waterfront. Grab a lake-side table for a spectacular view over the lake as the sun goes down!
3. Altitude Brewing
Claiming to brew beer for the adventurous, this is a great place for a quick pitstop on your way back to your accommodation. A firm favourite of ours!
4. Whakatipu Brewing
A brew pub for one and all! Easy to access and fun to drink at. Come dressed in your ski clothes and just enjoy the friendly fun atmosphere.
5. Gin Garden by Broken Heart
Just a few minute's drive from the base of Coronet Peak, and on the way back to Queenstown via Arthurs Point. It’s all about the award-winning gins in a relaxing atmosphere!
6. The Crown Pub and Beer Garden
A great all-round pub in 5Mile, Frankton which is super easy to get to from The Remarkables. Great for the whole family!
