Arrowtown Blooms into Spring with Creativity and Events from October till mid Nov with a variety of events, creative workshops, films, talks and an art exhibition. Watch Buckingham Street "Grow" with Spring floral displays from 27th Sept to coincide with the Arrowtown Spring Garden Show and the launch of the 2019 ACAS Spring Arts Festival programme. The Hills Sculptures
Thursday 3rd Oct – 2:30pm, The Hills Golf Course
An exclusive walk around The Hills Sculptures along with an informative presentation about the Sculptures. This will be followed by a complimentary drink and canapés served in the Award Winning Clubhouse designed by New Zealand’s leading architect Andrew Patterson. More than a dozen installations grace the course, cleverly placed in settings fitting the style of the work - from metal dragon flies on a tranquil pond to ‘Red Ridge’, a kinetic sculpture surrounded by tussock behind the 13th green.
Matt Gauldie, Artist’s Exhibition - ‘Life Between Two Shores’
17-27 October, 2019, Arrowtown Museum
Artist Matt Gauldie will present an exhibition of his new works to coincide with the opening of the festival. On the night he will deliver, a detailed talk on his journey as Official New Zealand Army Artist and creating art in war zones such as Afghanistan. He will also discuss his early career in the United States through to his recent public bronze sculptures and motivations behind his artwork.
Matt’s latest collection, ‘Life Between Two Shores’ is a creative search into culture, identity, New Zealand history and his own family history.
Kate De Goldi in Conversation with Bethany G Rogers

Enjoy an hour with award-winning Kate De Goldi, one of New Zealands’ most loved authors whose short novels engage children, teenagers and adults alike. Kate is joined in conversation with local freelance writer Bethany G Rodgers

Sir Bob Jones Talk "Satire -The Art of Taking the Mickey"
Thursday 24 October 6:30pm Millbrook Resort, Arrowtown
The biting satire of Sir Bob Jones, the provocative newspaper columnist, rich-lister, and novelist, will come under the microscope at an Arrowtown Arts Festival marquee event. Sir Bob’s topic: “Satire – The Art of Taking the Taking the Mickey,” will be presented in interview format with John Lapsley the Wit’s End columnist for the Otago Daily Times.
Rocktober Music

A musical evening that echoes the musical era of the 60's 70's and 80's. Channel your inner Mick Jagger, Led Zepplin, Beatles, Beach Boys, Stevie Nicks or Bob Dylan. Big hair, bell-bottom trousers, platform shoes, beads and Kaftans are encouraged. Dancing to the groove of local bands Zucchini Brothers and Bourbon Sour from 7pm till late. Music with 60’s-80’s dress encouraged
Looking Through the Layers - Still Life
Monday 21 October 2019 1:00pm – 4:00pm Arrowtown Community Centre, 12 Centennial Avenue, Arrowtown
Students will learn from local artist Ro Bradshaw how to explore the creative process of layering using different substrates and mediums including painting and collage. This workshop is designed with a still life theme, and are suitable for all artistic levels, from beginner to accomplished artist.
Japanese Stitch Technique
Monday 21 October 2019 9:00am – 12:00pm Arrowtown Community Centre, 12 Centennial Avenue, Arrowtown
Local artist Sue Marshall will teach students how to make artists’ book using a Japanese Bookbinding Technique. Students will be given notes with a brief history of Artists Books, & then make their own "book". Artists Books are a great way for creatives to display drawings, prints or poems. All materials supplied.
NZ Premiere of “Whiteley”
6pm Monday 21st Oct at Dorothy Browns Cinema, Arrowtown
Whiteley is a visual journey into the private life and creative legacy of Australia’s most iconic artist, Brett Whiteley, told “in his own words” using personal letters, notebooks and photographs, interwoven with reconstructions, animations, archival interviews and rare footage. The documentary is directed by James Bogle and produced by Sue Clothier.

Mark Making

Local artist Sue Marshall teaches the art of mark making. “Mark Making is the broad term used to include all marks that are made visible as a manifestation of applied or gestural energy. This Mark-making workshop is suitable for beginners and more experienced students to experiment freely in a non-judgemental environment.
Garden to Table
Thursday 14 November 2019 10:00am – 12:00pm Millbrook Resort, 2 Malaghans Ridge, Arrowtown
Visit a selection up to five local potagers around Dalefield and Arrowtown, plus the Millbrook Orchard. Meet the local gardeners and garden enthusiasts. Morning tea provided.
Photography Walk with Local Photographer Paul Rea
Saturday 26 October 2019 9:00am – 12:00pm Lakes District Museum, 49 Buckingham St, Arrowtown
Paul will lead a 3 hour walk around Arrowtown and the Arrow River to give you an opportunity to make photographs in your own locale with other photographers. We will go over the basics of using your camera and provide some tricks and techniques to best capture your images. We will also talk about some helpful post processing software and give guidance on how to build your skills in that area if you are interested. Bring along your camera, but not essential.
