Discovering Queenstown: Spinnaker Bay Apartments - the best accommodation for your stay!
Best place to stay in Queenstown
Without doubt, we believe that our Spinnaker Bay Apartments, are the best place to stay in Queenstown New Zealand. Whether you are here in winter, summer or the shoulder months, our holiday apartments are perfectly located and equiped to take the stress from your travel experience.
Spinnaker Bay Apartments are conveniently located just a few minutes drive and less than a delightful 20 minute walk (1.4kms) along the waterfront into Queenstown central! This means you can leave your car at your apartments and take a stroll into town, away from the main road and the stress of traffic.
In the other direction, towards Frankton, there are larger supermarkets, more pubs restaurants cafe’s and bars. By car you can also access many of the indoor activities such as the go-carts and trampolining etc at the back of Frankton. And its an easy and fast access to both ski mountains - The Remarkables and Coronet Peak.
For the record, knowing where other suburbs and locations are in Queenstown will help you see how good a stay at Spinnaker Bay Apartments actually is!
Queenstown Central
Spinnaker Bay Apartments are located within a walkable distance to the centre of Queenstown, including bars, cafe’s, restaurants, supermarkets, and the beachfront with its spectacular views and eclectic shopping district. The reason why this is important is because town can often be busy & loud, with high traffic levels and parking challenges. So if you can walk in, then that immediately takes the stress out of the commute! walking along the waterfront with Lake Wakatipu on your left, amongst the pines, is a beautiful way to Explore Queenstown!
Frankton
Back towards the airport is the extended suburb called Frankton. Here, you'll find mall type shopping, big supermarkets and chain stores. The best way to get to Frankton is by bike, along the same waterfront route, but in the other directions. You can also take a car or bus, with the later being a very easy and direct ride. Frankton is kind of like a three point waypoint - one direction towards Arrowtown, one towards town, and the other towards The Remarkables and on to Kingston. There are plenty of restaurants, cafe's and bars etc at 5Mile or Remarkables Park
Sunshine Bay
Staying in Sunshine Bay, while geographically close to Queenstown, requires a rather sharp uphill walk on the way home, and a commute through town traffic before and after your ski day. It's on the way to Glenorchy but most amenities are between town and Frankton. Besides a dairy, the grocery shopping has to be done back in town at one of the smaller and more expensive supermarkets.
Arthurs Point
Swinging around the back of Queenstown and on the way to Coronet peak is Arthurs Point. it's very much a family suburb and besides a few very cool bars, all of your amenities are back in Queenstown central. So, its close up Coronet Peak, with a bus pick up in winter for skiing and summer for biking, but not really accessible too much else.
Kelvin Heights
Kelvin Heights is a very locals area. Unfortunately with current traffic levels in Queenstown, it doesn't have easy access to town or even Frankton which is your closest shopping district. Great if you want to disconnect from the main vibe of Queenstown, and with easy access to The remarkables but a difficult drive to town and Coronet Peak or Arrowtown through traffic.
Arrowtown
Arrowtown - born of gold! Established as a township during the gold-rush error, Arrowtown has a charming village feel. With one petrol station and two mini markets, its very much a quit laid back experience. Its still a 20 minute commute to Coronet Peak and over 45 minutes up to the Remarkables. So if you're looking for location and convenience, then we believe that Spinnaker Bay Apartments still has one of the most balanced locations of any accommodation in Queenstown.
Lower Shotover & Lake Hayes
This is a suburban area just outside of Frankton, in the direction of Arrowtown. Most of the time, you'll fly over it in the final decent into Queenstown as you arrive through the gorge. It's a quick access to 5Mile and Frankton for shopping, but all the action of Queenstown central is about a 20 minute commute without traffic. Besides a mini-market, the nearest amenities are 5Mile.
