It’s the weekend! What are your plans? May we suggest catching a market or two while you’re here? Queenstown has a number of markets, both locally and further afield. They are unique and fun and well worth your time visiting. We are proud of our southern Kiwi culture and our southern charm, and no other place does the two traits collide quite as well as at the markets, so if you want to get to know the locals, then head to the markets and enjoy spit-roasted pork belly on rye, local honey, pig’s in blankets, hot chocolates, or great coffee!. Pick up your supplies of locally sourced honey, tea, vegetables, fresh meat and loaves of bread (and even chocolates as a treat!). Grab those unique presents for a friend or family like flax woven baskets, homemade soap, a wonderful array of artisan jewellery, hand-stitched bags made from recycled jeans and handcrafted pounamu (greenstone).
Traditional meets the creative in arts and crafts and the food options are simply ‘plain good kai’!!! Locally we have the Remarkables Market (look for the red barn - I kid you not!) in Frankton out by the airport, the Creative Queenstown Arts and Crafts Market shoreside in town (just follow your nose - it's hard to miss), and the Arrowtown’s Farmers Market, yes in Arrowtown.
Then head into town for Pizza and Pinot (noir…). Queenstown does not disappoint when it comes to the share quantity and quality of our eateries & bars. Imagine a London block, maybe 2, jam-packed with bars, cafes and restaurants. Throw in a few food trucks, mix it up with an insane amount of cultural diversity then park it in front of a still lake with towering snow-capped mountains and you have yourself a playground made for mayhem!
