Ski Resorts

Queenstown is surrounded by several top-notch ski resorts that cater to skiers and boarders of all levels. The two main resorts within a short drive are:

Coronet Peak:

Located just a short drive from Queenstown, Coronet Peak is one of New Zealand's most popular ski resorts. It has an amazing fall line with fun slopes for intermediate to advanced snow sport enthusiasts. The resort features well-groomed trails, stunning views of the surrounding mountains, and modern facilities.

The Remarkables:

Situated about a 40-minute drive from Queenstown (purely because of the route of the access road), The Remarkables is another fantastic ski area. It boasts diverse terrain, including wide-open slopes, natural terrain parks, and a super great mix between fun and more challenging runs. Over the last decade there have been many family friendly updates and the resort has become synonymous with a fun and relaxed environment suited to both boarders and skiers.

Parks: Over 20 features riding top to bottom, all linkable from the new Sugar Chairlift: Big Line, Burton Stash, G-West, Medium Park, Waterrace Park, Tube Town, Begginer Park

Coronet Peak and Remarkables Parking: Unfortunately parking can be problematic - especially if you arrive around 9am. It’s first in first serve. And parking is limited so during the weekends or the holidays it pays to get up early, have breakfast or a coffee up at the base buildings, and then boot up and hit the slopes. We should note that there are shuttle services from the car parks to the base buildings so you don’t have to do the horrible trek up the road!

Snow Conditions: Queenstown experiences reliable snowfall during the winter season, which typically runs from June to early October. The region's high elevation and proximity to the Southern Alps ensure consistent snow cover. Both ski resorts also utilise extensive snowmaking equipment to supplement natural snowfall, ensuring optimal skiing conditions throughout the season.

Terrain and Trails: Queenstown's ski resorts offer a wide range of terrain to suit different abilities. You'll find suitable runs if you're a beginner, intermediate, or expert skier. The slopes are well-maintained, and there are designated areas for off-piste skiing and snowboarding. Coronet Peak and The Remarkables also offer ski schools and instructors for those looking to improve their skills or try skiing for the first time.

Facilities and Amenities: The ski resorts in Queenstown provide excellent facilities and amenities to enhance your skiing experience. They have well-equipped rental shops for ski gear and equipment, including skis, snowboards, boots, and clothing. On-site cafes, restaurants, and bars offer various dining options, from quick snacks to full meals. Other amenities include ski storage, equipment repair services, and ski lessons.

Après-Ski and Other Activities: Queenstown is renowned for its lively après-ski scene. After a day on the slopes, you can explore the town's vibrant nightlife, with numerous bars, clubs, and restaurants offering a festive atmosphere. Generally it’s ok to head into town, park the car, and then have a few beers - BUT please note that we are very strict on Driving under the Influence of Alcohol and we urge you to choose a ‘sober driver’ for the evening, or park and walk. Additionally, Queenstown offers a plethora of off-slope activities, including bungee jumping, jet boating, hiking, wine tours, and scenic flights, ensuring there's something for everyone to enjoy.

Accessibility: Queenstown is easily accessible from major cities in New Zealand and abroad. The town has an international airport, offering direct flights from several destinations. It's also well-connected by road, with regular bus services and car rentals available.

Tuning & Ski Prep: There are a number of options in town, with one or two of the companies able to do pick ups from Spinnaker Bay. Generally, a drop off in the afternoon, means a next morning pick up - be careful of the queues in the morning though and allow yourself plenty of time to get up the mountain in time to make the parking.
