Arrowtown in 1 Day

Arrowtown is worth more than a visit.  It’s worth a full day of leisurely exploration and we have just the schedule to follow to make this a no-brainer one day trip!

This is our recommended schedule:

1. Breakfast

Start with breakfast at The Chop Shop Food Merchants.  Great coffee and even better food, described as 'Quirky, different with food that packs a punch'  A Personal favourite is the Turkish Eggs!.  This is where the locals hang out before moving on to real-world jobs!

2. Walk.

You don’t have to hit the mountains and do a large ascent, but we do recommend the walk along the Arrow River, in both directions from town.

  1. The Arrow Gorge Trail and;
  2. Arrowtown Millennium Walk - a 1hr 30 min stroll along the river towards Arrow Junction.  Super easy and super beautiful.

Pop into the Lakes District Museum & Gallery on the corners of Buckingham and Wiltshire streets for your free maps.

3. Lunch

Staying with the local theme, we can strongly recommend Provisions of Arrowtown on the corners of Buckingham and Merioneth Streets.  This is a beautifully restored little villa that has won the hearts of locals for years.  Our recommendations here….(?)…  anything, and we do mean anything… from the pastries cabinet + a seat outside in the garden!

They make their own jams and preserves and have a fantastic collection of artisan condiments, books and gifts.

4. Afternoon Sightseeing

Spend the afternoon wandering around the shops and if the weather plays nice, try your hand at gold panning!.  And don’t forget our local museum and the Chinese Village.  Arrowtown is small but packs a punch with so much historic information and interesting places to visit

5. Aperativo

Settle in for artisan beers and local award-winning wines at the Fork & Tap, on the other corner from the Museum.  If you’re peckish, then I seriously recommend the pate plate - homemade and probably one of the best I’ve ever tasted!

6. Dinner

For a small town, Arrowtown has wonderful eateries.  Personally, we love La Rumbla for their shared plates and tapa styled menus.  But there are many other wonderful choices too..  Check out the listings and reviews here

7. Movie Night

Dorothy Brown is a boutique cinema, bar and bookshop which shows a broad range of movies from blockbusters to independents and indies.  The evening itself is an experience and we highly recommend you save your dessert for the chocolate platters which can be purchased at the kiosk and eaten in the theatre (along with bottles of wine + beer!).  Choose from the lounge chairs or the bean bags, both have perfect views in the relatively small theatres!

8.  Night Cap at the Blue Door

Once the movie has finished, head downstairs and into the adjourning alley and find the ‘Blue Door’ for the last toast to a wonderful day!  This is a tiny whisky/wine/cocktail bar with bared stone walls and a roaring fireplace that you’ll find many a local winding down their day.  Music, laughter and good wine are guaranteed

9. Getting Home

You’ve had a big day.  Please don’t drink and drive.  We have loved having you and want to make sure you arrive safely back at our apartments.  There is a night bus into town or alternatively, we can help you with a taxi.  Just pop down to reception and speak to our awesome crew at the front desk!
