How to celebrate Halloween in Queenstown
Be Scared this Halloween in Queenstown!
If you’re heading our way, and coming to stay in our lake-side holiday apartments over the Halloween period, then here are a few ideas for the holiday weekend
Halloween with children
Costumes
Head out to 5 Mile in Frankton for a whole host of shops that can help you with customs - for both children and adults!
The Warehouse is great for everything from outfits to candy and everything Halloween in between.
Look Sharp is a 'one-stop fun shop’ for everything party related. They have a great selection of Halloween costumes and accessories.
And buying sweets can be done at Countdown - a large supermarket where you can top up on the local vino and lots of local produce!
Where to take the children
If you are from abroad, I think the first thing you should know, is that Kiwis don’t really celebrate Halloween like they do the United States of America - we don’t really embrace the full commercial side of it. So in terms of trick and treating, probably the most welcoming and safest places to trick and treat are at Lake Haye Estate and Lower Shotover, accessed from State Highway 6, just after Frankton on the way to Arrowtown.
You should also know, that Halloween is actually in Autumn so trick and treating is actually done during daylight and most kids are home by 8.30 / 9 pm.
Events
New Zealand's Biggest Halloween Festival
Back again for 2023, this is a musical festival held out at AJ Hacket’s Kawarau Bungy Centre in Gibbston Valley. With local DJs and a few from abroad, including SAMMY VIRJI, JADED, LITTLE FRITTER, CHARLIE C and LENNI VIBE, this festival has an age limit of 18.
As the sun sets, the music will be on the outdoor stage, perched on a cliff that overlooks the Kawarau River, and nestled amidst the stunning mountainous landscape of Queenstown's renowned winery region. Then as night falls, you’ll transition to the indoor stage, where the DJs will create magic music!
You can also get transfers from town out to the site!
